"LEAVE NO TRASH Is about facing the reality of our single use lifestyles, by becoming aware of how the things we consume are wrapped in trash and unashamedly facing our buying habits. So that we can live more thoughtfully and also creatively deal with the trash we can’t help but make." - Trashi

This year we are making a conceited effort to keep AFTERMATH trash free.

The LNT crew will be working hard to provide themecamps and participants with tools on how to manage waste effectively and challenge our single-use lifestyles.

Relearn, Reduce, Up-cycle is the mantra

The waste management plan is dependent on the participation of all Aftermathematicians supporting the event being zero-waste.
You can start with separating your trash into these three catagories:

RECYCLABLES NON-RECYCLABLES COMPOSTABLES
1.Metals 1.Chips packets 1. Wet paper/card
2.Glass 2. Staws/Chewing Gum/ 2. Left overs
3.Dry paper/card lollipop sticks 3. Fruit & veg
4.Plastic codes 1,2,3,4, 3. Cigarette Butts 4. Meat & bones
5,6. 4. Cling film/ single use plastic
bags.

RECYCLABLES:

Most venues will have a bin for recyclables. When spending time there, make sure to deposit your recyclables into the recycle bin, and keep your organic waste separate.

Each day the LNT crew will come around and collect recyclables from venues and themecamps for sorting at their base camp.

Join in on the action and see how they go about the sorting process. there will be workshops held for young and old during the course of the event at the Leave No Trash station. Be sure to pop in and lend a hand, and learn a thing or two about clever waste management while you're at it.

NON-RECYCLABLES:

Keep your eyes peeled for the following at the event:
Look out for Eco-Bricks

These babies will be hanging all over the place, with sticks attached to them. This is in fact not a weird way of decorating, but a resourceful method of waste management. Eco-bricks can be used to build structures or reinforce existing ones.

Every time you find yourself with a non-recyclable goodie in your hand, stuff it in an eco-brick. See what wonderful creations can come from our every day trash.

Video on Eco-bricks »

NO BUTTS IN THE ECO-BRICKS.

NO STOMPIES ON THE FLOOR EITHER.

If you partake in a puff, don't be THAT guy and just drop them on the floor.

Keep your eyes peeled for designated stompie jars and deposit butts in there.

Cigarette butts and ash will be burned to dispose of them.

COMPOSTABLES

BRING 2 LIDDED CONTAINERS
TWO OLD ICE CREAM CONTAINERS WILL DO

* One for compostables such as egg shells, veg, paper towels. This can be deposited in our worm farms
More on worm farms >>

* One for meat, citrus and onions. This can be deposited into our bokashi bins.
More on bokashi bins >>

More easy ways to keep Aftermath waste free:

BRING YOUR OWN CUP, PLATE & CUTLERY

Bring your own re-usable cups and plates to be washed up after a meal, instead of having excess packaging that comes with disposable options.
ALSO ABSOLUTELY NO FRICKING GLITTER. Unless it's eco-friendly, cellulose based, no plastic whatsoever glitter.
Also so no glow-sticks this time around. Sorry ravers.
CHALLENGE YOURSELF TO AVOID SINGLE-USE PLASTIC
Say no to that overly packaged banana, bring your own bags to the store, ask for a brown bag instead of a plastic one when buying bread. Small things make a huge difference. Our planet needs us.
PTERODACTYL SCREECHING AT PEOPLE WHO LITTER

That guy dropping his stompie on the floor over there? Screech at him. Go ahead, let it rip. Reach into your monkey brain. Let the anger flow through you.

Does LEAVE NO TRASH tickle your fancy? Become a volunteer!

LNT will need help with:
  • Collecting and sorting trash during the event
  • Cleaning up site before and after the event
  • Facilitating natural building and waste management workshops
  • Transporting trash afterwards to designated recycle plants
  • Educating fellow-participants and humans during and beyond Aftermath about clever waste management
YOUR TRASH IS STILL YOUR RESPONSIBILITY
EVERYTHING YOU BRING MUST GO BACK WITH YOU

SAVE THE DATE FOR OUR FIRST SITE CLEAN UP!

1 SEPTEMBER - 2 SEPTEMBER 2018

We'll be tackling a dumpsite on the farm and recycling what we can, along with making sure all the dangerous sharp and pointy bits are put away in a safe place.

Camping will be available, so bring a tent if you'd like to stay over. We'll gooi a braai - Swartland style!

MORE INFO

A little less than 5 years ago a group of Riebeek Regenerates came together for a celebration of life -60 years worth of the well-lived life of Herman Jonker, to be exact. At this small gathering of large minds, around a fire in the heart of the Swartland, Aftermath was conceived...

Fast forward to 2018 and Aftermath has evolved into a pretty amazing gathering with endless potential thanks to YOU! Each year we see amazing, crazy talented, beautiful people bring a little bit of themselves to share with our community, and we would like to remind you that Aftermath cannot be what it is without every single one of you bringing your own special flavour to the gig.
WE THANK YOU!

CHECK IT OUT
But before we go ahead and have some fun,
we need to get all the paperwork done.
As you may know, we will be introducing a BIO system this year, which means you need to fill out a form with basic details in order to buy a ticket. We are implementing this system to ensure the safety of participants in case of emergency, and to also ensure that all underage participants are accompanied by their guardians.

So even if you have attended before, or even if you are part of the crew, you will be required to register a bio in order to have a valid ticket this year.

When creating a bio you will be given the option to apply for setting up a
themecamp, bringing art or volunteering. Please indicate if you'd like to do any of these so we may add you to our Direct Distribution Ticket list.  DDTs are tickets allocated to participants who are playing an active role in setting up the playground we all enjoy.

Applications for DDts will close on
5
AUGUST, so hurry and get those bios ready!

So if you like being hands-on and appreciate all the love that goes into manual labour, DPW is for you.

DPW will be needing extra hands before, during and after the event, so if you'd like to get your hands dirty, mail This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
